WASCO

Another long-term relationship

General manager Steve Saylor can't remember a time when WASCO wasn't a PCS client. "WASCO has been with PCS since before I came here - probably about 1983 or 1984. We just upgraded last year from the RSTS system to the Unix system. The new hardware and software is a lot faster and more efficient and we have better accountability of the inventory."

Computer operator Chuck Humphrey is pleased with the service that PCS provides. "When we have a question or a problem, we've gotten good response. Most times, the problem is taken care of the same day - sometimes in just a few minutes. The longest time was when we had a PC fail. We took it in to PCS and had it back the next day."

The new PCS software has impressed Chuck Humphrey, who says everything seems to take less time than it did in the past. Saylor agreed. "Like Chuck said, speed is a big improvement. Now we can generate a report in a matter of minutes, where before long reports might take several hours to process."

Knowing what's on hand is, of course, critical for any business like WASCO and the PCS system helps the company know what they have and what they need to reorder. "Inventory is a lot easier to work now. It's accurate and it's easy for us to make adjustments as needed," says Chuck Humphrey.

"We were able to save money
because PCS was able to make
[our old printers and termianls]
work with the new system."

Every company that carries and extensive inventory must perform a "physical inventory" at least once per year to confirm that what's on the shelves is accurately reflected in the computer. Humphrey says the PCS system makes this tedious chore a little less trying . "Inventory went very, very smoothly. I don't think we had any problems at all."

And when the system was upgraded, PCS found ways for WASCO to save money by using existing equipment. "We were able to save a lot of money when we went to the Unix system by saving our printers and Falco terminals because PCS was able to make them work with the new system."
