If somebody else hadnt already taken the name, wed call
him "Mister Wizard." Since that name wasnt available,
we call him Smitty.
After high school, Smitty got his start in electronics, starting in
1958, compliments of the US Air Force. Serving at Keesler Air Force
Base and Lockbourne Air Force Base, he received education in electronics,
ground and height-finding radar, and airborne bombing and navigation
systems.
When he left the military, Smitty worked for North American Aviation
and then for Honeywells electronic data processing division. There
he specialized in servicing Honeywell 200, Honeywell 3200, and Honeywell
L62 systems and their related peripherals. One of his clients was PCS
and when the company needed an on-site technician in 1979, Smitty was
the first choice.
At PCS, hes watched as large components became small and then
tiny. Computing power that once would have filled a cabinet now fits
in a shirt pocket.
Away from the office, Smitty is an avid golfer. He also enjoys skiing
and woodworking. He is married, with 2 children and 2 grandchildren.
